Macnab Members Remember Rob

May was the first meeting of Macnab Lodge, Essex’s Shooting and Fishing Lodge, since the sudden passing of W.Bro Rob Hollier in late January 2026. Since then, the funeral had taken place which was very well attended by so many Macnabists and masons in general.

This month saw a Lodge of Sorrow performed, a poignant act solemnly observed by all those present which saw Rob’s regalia depart the lodge for the final time. This was then followed by a First Degree ceremony of which the candidate Nigel Mant who was also Rob’s candidate.

The ceremonial part of the evening being complete, Macnabist’s remembered their departed brother in the best way they know how and in the spirit of which Rob would have been well a part of – with celebratory remembrance, music, mischief and merriment, a spirit which bonds as well as defines the Macnab Madness which has made such a new lodge so very close so very quickly.

Neil Beverley’s Bag of Tricks at the festive board raised the roof as usual with many well deserving masons receiving awards – that shall remain nameless – for a plethora of great reasons!

The atmosphere at the festive board backed by music and chatter and laughter has made Macnab so very colourful and characterful, guests and members alike all enjoyed themselves immensely and afterwards stayed patiently to sign the Book of Condolence with heartfelt messages to Rob’s widow – Jan.

With May’s meeting melting away into recent memory, Macnab looks forward to its June 18th AM meeting and PM shoot at Howard Hall, Braintree.

Keep an eye out for the booking form opening soon!
